Make It won the bid to take Barking's former local authority office building and convert it into a shared workspace hub that the community would actually love.
The dominating 6 storey building was re-designed to house over 50 individual studios, open-plan hot desking, and dynamic event spaces.
MAKE AN ENTRANCE
The old tiled lobby was given an extensive facelift. The new moody appearance was softened with large natural planting and juxtaposed with sharp way-finding graphics. Head-turning lift doors were added to naturally lead you to the upper floors.

EASTSIDE LOVE
The huge exterior was an opportunity to turn this drab structure into an iconic local monument.
Global Street Art Agency designed and painted the huge circuit inspired mural to symobolise the growing connectivity taking place within the building and the local community.

DYNAMIC WAYFINDING
A brand-new graphics suite was designed to complement the new look and provide clear wayfinding over 6 floors of this sprawling interior.

COMMON
SPACES
Communal areas were designed for every floor giving the residents the chance to mix, network and create a true community.
A DIVERSE COMMUNITY FOR MAKERS
The wellness studio, photography studio, and recording studio were designed into the building to
support more creative artists with detailed space planning and additional soundproofing detail added.

A CHANGING NEIGHBOURHOOD
Re-designed and refurbished, the Make It building has become a dynamic hub for creatives and entrepreneurs within the rapidly changing East London neighbourhood and commuinity.

Technical DESIGN & Plans pack
Each floor was planned to meet the needs of every resident. With every floor being unique, additional facilities such as the photo studio and recording studio were designed into the space along with the primary 50-plus studios required.
